So I heard this song on the radio over the last few days and I really liked the voice and music. I look it up online and try to get it via Kazaa. Defeat. There's 805+ Terabytes (805,000,000,000,000 bytes) available but nothing on this song. I cave. I drive around looking for it at the store. This will mark the first CD I've bought in years because I hate buying them and supporting the industry (which would be useless without the artists but the artists only get 0.8% of each CD sale or so I calculated in another article ages ago that I can't find).
Surely HMV will have it at an inflated price at the biggest mall in the city? Nope. In fact, they've never had that album in stock at that location. News Flash: Winnipeg gets music when it's considered passe. This song, which I only just heard last week, was released July 2, 2002. It's by The Benjamin Gate, and it's called Need. I liked its sound. But Winnipeg doesn't like anything it would appear. Thus my 8-year long frustation of the fucking shitty music selection available in this shit-hole almost peaks. I was shocked when I first moved here, in 1995, to hear music that was certainly 6 months old, passe by Ontario standards, on the top 10. What about all that other music that was out there? Well, I could list shit loads of music that you've all heard that no one out here would even know about, thanks to the Radio and Retail selection. Many a time my dad has suggested I book myself an hour of time once a week on the University Radio station and DJ, playing music no one has ever heard of because it's new. Finally... I'm seriously pondering it enough to go check out what it would take to get done.
This dosen't mean it'll happen, because I have no idea what my time constraints are going to be this coming year at school, with job, with Forces and what not. However, if I can do it, work free, get a list of songs together once a week for sure with help from peeps on PoC because it's not like I can tap into anything out here, maybe, just maybe, I'll start a revolution. Hell, any DJ named 'Wildman' should be able to start a revolution. Especially if I could start my own station with the call-letters of FCKM.

Without the industry I can see a surge of interest in local bands because of a lack of industry tailored supergroups. Music would move from pop to whatever the local taste was. I think I'd like that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... the artists, also, would be useless without the industry. Thus, I buy music.
