Movie Roundup

It's been a while since I've said anything about movies that i've watched, and that's probably good news for you since I suck at it.
Regardless of the fact that I suck, and the fact that I've been too busy to watch my normal quantity let alone write anything about them, here we go (in no particular order).
The Butterfly Effect (2004) and The Butterfly Effect 2 (2006) - a very interesting concept and pretty fucked up if you ask me. The first one was really well done and it reminded me (sort of) like Memento - only the opposite. The main character has the ability to change his memories and change the effect his actions had on other peoples lives, hence the butterfly effect (lookup the chaos theory for more info). It was a really good story and it fills in nicely throughout the movie. The second one, unfortunately, not so good. Completely unrelated, just the same concept. It was weak and to my dismay they left it open for a third -- which will be related to the second but definitely not the first. Ugh. Watch the first, and only watch the second if you feel like wasting time.
Horror! The Horror! a quick roundup: Stay Alive (2006) was a cheesy movie based on a cheesy concept -- but it had good execution. I kind of enjoyed it and I feel bad saying that. See No Evil (2006) scared me just on concept. It's a WWE movie staring a *gasp* wrestler that isn't The Rock. It was extremely gruesome and had some interesting twists and turns. I had no idea who was going to survive which is rare for a horror movie. It was extremely fucked. To throw in some Canadian content Heartstopper (2006) was on the pallet, and with true Canadian horror they could've spent a little bit more on special effects - and paying attention to details - other than that, it was absolutely disgusting and a fine time spent saying "gross!" It was a genuine blood bath that was time well spent.
To switch gears, The Da Vinci Code (2006) was a great movie. But I seriously think it's merely because I love Audrey Tautou. Seriously though, it had some extremely interesting concepts and conspiracies. Since I didn't read the book they were all fresh to me. I liked it, but I watched it so long ago I can't explain any more. Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006) was far better than the first installment. It still had an element of cheese that hurts my soul and my love for my cartoon counter-part (he's 5 days older than me). But, execution was better, animation was better, and the story was better.
And finally, Click (2006) -- Click is absolutely fantastic. This dramatic comedy about life and skipping through it was excellent. The cast was great. The dog was funny. And I love Kate Beckinsale. I can't believe this movie only has a 6.8 rating, who are these people? this sucker's a 8.5! Anyways, if you get a chance to watch any movie I've mentioned make sure it's Click.

Haven't watched a single one of those movies, although I did read Da Vinci Code.
On another note: I watched the Shining for the first time ever on Saturday.

the shining sucks.
that's my opinion heh.
regarding the theoretical aspects of the da vinci code, i found the whole idea a tad ethnocentric and very narrow minded. even if you were to combine judaism, islam and christianity and count their figures as one, i doubt they would compare to the human horror, tragedy and subjugation one can pin on the Chinese interpretation of communism alone. to suggest that one can attribute the dark nature of mankind, the marginalization of women worldwide, etc., to anything that has anything to do with jesus christ simply displays a general ignorance and inability to think outside one's own tiny social sphere. about 1/3 of the world's population live in china and india, and i'm guessing a majority of them consider jesus to be about as significant as bugs bunny...
as a form of entertainment, however, i liked the movie.
i apologize for my lax attention to proper presentation here; i'm feeling tired and lazy.
also, i just saw The Departed in the theatre. ass-kicking performances from some actors who i was surprised to find could actually do a half decent job. in particular, though i never thought i'd say this in 10 million years of life, leonardo dicaprio was fantastic. i've often found movies like this to be falsely complicated, adding incoherent, poorly thought out plot twists in an effort to trick people into thinking the movie is clever. this, however, was quite well done, and it was very refreshing.

Audrey Tautou...Do her wonders ever cease? I haven't read The Da Vinci Code either but really enjoyed the film. Perhaps she's why. Big fan of Ms. Beckinsale too. Are there any leather trousers in that film by chance? I suspect not. Still... Sounds like a decent film.
